KSI was formed in 1997 by the Brisbane based PNG students. KSI is a voluntary and apolitical student organisation, formed with the main aim of empowering PNG's "academic elite".

PNG students pursuing studies and professional training in Australia and thereby enhancing consciousness about issues of national interest and development in Papua New Guinea.
